hi, can you backup all your database files/server once a day, every midnight? or make an auto backup program so we can prevent big losses when the server get attacked. this can also help admins/staffs to avoid tons of headache to restore the server and helps the players, donors and non donors from raging because the server is down in several days/weeks because it gets attacked. i think other players wont mind if the server is down for an hour or so everyday because the backup is in progress. but its worth a shot if you can prevent big rollbacks. thanks!

The thing is, with a server as big as pika, its constantly online, and when its online there is usually 1000+ players most of the time.

Backups that often will simply be impossible, and it will lag the server more than it is already.
This will make people constantly complain more often than they are already.

Another thing is, the server had backups, but those were deleted when the server was hacked. " someone will reply to this and say, but why weren't the backups stored locally and not online, if you think about it, each backup will be huge, and it will take a long time to download, this will make it unfeasible to do.

So the simple answer would be, Yes there were backups, No its not possible to do that often!

Backups for a huge server like ours takes way too much space. For this reason world backups aren't done very frequently.
Due to recent events we have reviewed what we do backup and added several more important files that are backed up daily.
