Trick to find caves easily in survival

After a long time of playing minecraft I have come up with an idea that can help you find caves. It's pretty simple and cheap.

Step 1#: Take a piston (either sticky or normal).
Step 2#: Place it on the ground facing downwards.

Step #3: Activate it!

Pistons can push up to 12 blocks so if it extends it means that under you there is a cave with distance of 1 to 12 blocks! If you are lucky and the trick works start digging down and get directly into the action instead of wasting the durability of your pickaxe for hours until you spot a cave you really want to explore and exploit

Ik that this method is far more efficient but im not sure if it's legal cause it's similar to x-ray so I dont use it! Idk lemme know if I am wrong.

Yea. Here is a legit tutorial with no bugs. Dig down in a 2x1 area while standing in the middle so you dont fall into lava. If you dont find a cave the first time do it again. Or just search the surface.
