Is having barriers allowed?

I have a friend who gave me barriers, the first thing I was gonna do is get rid of them because i thought it wasnt allowed, then i thought of posting this thread to ask if it is allowed.

I remember when ever a new player join there were always these people in your dms giving you contraband items.
eg some items where:
-Glass panes with enchantments that should not be possible to have in a normal sever
-some messed up fireworks
-barriers
-spawn-able eggs somehow??????? (mobs would be gone though after a min or so)
and even more

Kinda was like a drug trade.

Let's say I was very addicted....
