You can recover it, however that will involve buying a Rank + Stats transfer on the store.

However with a rank transfer, anything permanent like ranks, chat colours and other similar cosmetics will be transferred. And with a stats transfer anything like in-game stats or gold will be transferred over

I mean if you want you can submit a support thing and ask but why would you change your username and the old one had gold on it
