Ender pearls

Whenever I'm going to pearl in a bedwars game while I'm falling I usually land the pearl and on 8 hearts or something close to that amount I die for some reason and I don't know why even though I land it on the floor or the side of a place that is above blocks and also I land the pearl above the void where you die. If anyone can explain the reason why then thank you.
