BedWars Competitive & QoL Improvement
Detailed description:
Hello Pika staff team,
I’d like to share a few BedWars suggestions aimed at improving competitive integrity, balance, and overall gameplay flow, especially for higher-level play. These are not meant to remove fun, but to add counterplay, clarity, and skill expression.
Suggestion:
Add a /who command usable after the game has started, limited to Titan+ ranks.
Reasoning:
Reason:
Water is currently very strong in 1.8 BedWars, especially since players can’t swing in water.
Reason:
Gold tools would make matches more intense without removing defensive play.
If wanted it can just be limited to gold pickaxes instead of gold axes.
Reason:
Important:
Invisibility should be expensive and limited in duration to avoid abuse.
Current Issues:
Suggestion:
Example Progression (adjustable):
Also keep this:
Benefits:
Currently, no competitive players buy glass because IYN (endstone and wood) is much cheaper, and TNT can simply be watered. With sponges as a counter, glass would finally have a real purpose again.

/who Command After Game Start
Suggestion:
Add a /who command usable after the game has started, limited to Titan+ ranks.
Reasoning:
- Nicked players can already be identified through recaps or identified via overlays.
- A controlled /who command increases competitive depth by forcing players to adapt mid-game.
- Knowing who you’re facing makes games more intense and skill-based.
Item Additions & Balance Updates
Sponges
Reason:
Water is currently very strong in 1.8 BedWars, especially since players can’t swing in water.
- Sponges would act as a hard counter to someone watering your base.
- Adds counterplay rather than removing water entirely.
Gold Pickaxes
Reason:
- Introduces higher-risk, higher-reward gameplay.
- Increases pressure during base attacks.
- Makes positioning and awareness more important.

If wanted it can just be limited to gold pickaxes instead of gold axes.
Invisibility Potions
Reason:
- Adds another layer of skill expression for competitive players.
- Invisibility is not overpowered in 1.8 due to terrain particles and potion sounds.
- Encourages awareness, counting players, and prediction!
Important:
Invisibility should be expensive and limited in duration to avoid abuse.
Tool Shop Rework (Major QoL Improvement)
Current Issues:
- Players can skip directly to max tools.
- Losing a diamond tool forces rebuying the full tier.
- Stone tools are rarely used and clutter the shop.
Suggestion:
- Require players to progress through tool tiers instead of skipping.
- Lower individual upgrade costs.
- Remove stone tools entirely.
Example Progression (adjustable):
- Permanent Wooden Pickaxe – 10 Iron perm pick
- Iron Pickaxe Upgrade – 10 Iron
- Gold Pickaxe Upgrade – 3 Gold
- Diamond Pickaxe Upgrade – 6 Gold
Also keep this:
- On death, downgrade one tool tier instead of losing everything.
Benefits:
- More consistent progression
- Better resource management
- Cleaner shop UI

Reason(s):
These are all just suggestions aimed at improving both the casual and competitive communities.
And to add something new and interesting so the community can adapted and learn to use it to their advantage.
Also some quality of life updates like the tool system revamp.
Thanks for your time.

Example(s):
For example, invisibility can be used as a competitive tool, or simply as a fun item for casual players who want to troll and enjoy the game.
Gold pickaxes make pressure more intense while also being risky when opponents are applying pressure on you.
Watering an opponent’s base can now be countered by buying sponges.
Additionally, if someone waters your TNT, you can sponge it, meaning players now have to properly time their water placements.
And also makes glass more important in public games seeing as watering a tnt can be countered
