Welcome everyone! Today, we’re speaking with a newly promoted Senior Moderator on Pika Network. This interview focuses on their journey, growth, and new responsibilities within the staff team.
Please note that many details regarding appeals cannot be discussed publicly, as they are confidential and handled strictly according to the staff rulebook. This ensures fairness, consistency, and trust across the community(though some questions were still asked others were not published due to privacy issues). With that in mind, let’s begin the interview and get to know the person behind the role.
1. Can you introduce yourself to the community and share your journey on Pika Network?
Ans- Hello everyone, I am `EA0_2_0_8_`, you may call me EA. I have been on Pika since 2019. I was a crack player back then, and somehow I stumbled upon this server, which has a pretty nice Sky wars game mode. Since then, I have met a lot of friends along the way, grinding to leaderboard positions, and even got the chance to contribute to the community by building some of my own Sky wars maps.
2. What first inspired you to apply for staff?
Ans- Back then, there wasn’t much assistance staff could provide. I wanted to join the staff team to make a difference, assist players when needed, and address the overflow of cheaters.
3. How was your experience working as a Moderator?
Ans- I have served as a Moderator twice. The first time, I was also a Screenshare Manager, so a lot of time went into refining internal structures and guidance on how screensharing should be handled. The second time was more focused on pure staff tasks—checking for cheaters, handling appeals, etc. Both experiences were quite different from one another, and I enjoyed them in different ways.
4. What challenges helped you grow the most during your Moderator period?
Ans- I would say it was taking on different sub-roles as a Moderator. Being a Moderator itself isn’t especially challenging, but managing additional sub-roles required more effort and allowed me to assist the staff team further. There were a lot of new things I had to learn, and some things I had to revisit. But all these challenges helped shape me into a better Moderator.
5. What new responsibilities come with being a Senior Moderator?
Ans- I don’t believe I can disclose most of the details, but as mentioned above, it involves assisting the management team with tasks like reviewing poorly made staff applications.
6. What is your approach when reviewing player appeals?
Ans- We have a very structured way of handling player appeals, so there isn’t much of a personal approach. I just have to remain very objective in each case.
7. What is the most challenging part of handling appeals so far, if you have one?
Ans- Balancing a correct decision with ensuring the player isn’t upset about the outcome. There have been times when players genuinely feel sorry for what they’ve done and write long passages expressing their regret. However, policy is policy. As much as I would love to unban them due to their changed attitude, I still have to deny the appeal while providing sufficient justification and explanation and also acknowledging their change in attitude.
8. Who would you say has been your closest friend or biggest support during your time on the staff team?
Ans- TryHardMarktin, Tlang, and DarkVenom7 are a few of my closest friends throughout. As for my biggest support, I’d say it’s StoPizza. He provided a lot of assistance back when I was still a Trial and Helper, and I’m truly appreciative and thankful for his support.
9. Are you committed to giving your 100% in your new role as Senior Moderator?
Ans- Absolutely!
10. How do you mediate between both work and being a Sr. Mod here?
Ans- Well, that's just it. I am not that active publicly, especially on the public Discord. I've never been one to just "yap nonsense" in chats. More than that, I don't feel I need to prove how active I am in the public eye. There are many times when I am performing duties that require me to be "hidden." As for having a job and also studying at university while need to balance the duty here as a Sr Mod, I don't think that's really what limits my visibility. I make sure to always have time to handle the responsibilities I've taken on. It's about managing my time effectively, not about choosing one over the other.
11. Why had you resigned the first time only to come 3 years later?
Ans- In Hong Kong, we have a major public examination that basically determines our future, whether you get into your ideal major at your ideal university, or take another path in high school. I had to resign from the staff team and from most Pika-related duties because I simply didn’t have time for them anymore. Now, after three years, I’ve successfully gotten into my ideal major at my ideal university, and I’ve been able to maintain good grades while having some spare time.
The first thing that came to mind was returning to Pika. It wasn’t exactly about finishing what I hadn’t done before, it was more about really enjoying my time here as a staff member again, continuing to grow as a person, and, of course, practicing my English along the way.
That brings our interview to a close. Thank you for taking the time to share your journey and insights with the community. We wish you the very best in your role as Senior Moderator and look forward to seeing the positive impact you’ll continue to make on Pika Network.
Sorry for being late guys. We will come back again with new interview soon.. Thanks...
