Because of the recent "Lag" problems due to melon farms, I have created a new melon farm that causes 80% less lag, if built in a 32x32 area. 99% of all melon farms in this server has this design:

I understand why you guys will build this, but it is THE (<--- hence the THE) lag machine. It creates a lot of lag because, if 1 melon grows the entire row's pistons will push, even if there aren't any melons there. Here is a tutorial for my melon farm.
(For the Admins/Helpers of the server: This machine will cause 80% less lag than "Fed X"'s machine because when a melon is detected, only 2 piston will push, unlike the other design where 16 piston will push. And those 16 pistons will push every single time a melon grows, where mine will only push when it is grown under the redstone torch.)
(What I hope to accomplish with this: I hope that dutch will understand that melons are an important part of the server. And understand that if the entire server builds my design, we will have at least 80% less lag. And if the entire server does change to my design, dutch should reactivate AFK machines. And as a result both players and admins will be happy.)
There is a design flaw, thx RaVo. You can still follow my tutorial on the bottom, but you have to adjust it a little. Here is an update:

Start out with this basic layout, piston than glowstone and then cobble on top of the pistons

Then, place the redstone like this, make sure they don't connect, or it become a lag machine.

Then on the cobble, put a redstone torch on every other one

Then put dirt on top of the torches

And repeat

Its not rly efficient bc the plants can grow both ways and link up with a melon thats grown by an other plant.

Aswell I wonder how you calculate you less lag%. A melon farm that uses a big timer will be less laggy for each melon it creates.

(*I did not read this all properly. I thought that vid was your tutorial.)

This is how I did the math. So the machine with in the vid was 100% lag, this represented 16 pistons. Now, every time a melon grew, the piston went off once. So, it should grow 8 times, bc there are 8 stems, 8*16 = 128. Now, with my NEW (updated) design, every time a melon grows it will activate 3 pistons. So 8*3 = 24. 24/128 = 18.75%. So it would create ~80% less lag.

Timer farms are hard because you need to hook up everything to a clock.

Why does that vid farm not just use 1 row of pistons? It would work close to the same but it would be alot smaller.

I like your torch system, I did test it a bit and it can kind of break(lag or unloading and reloading in a weird way) but it will fix it self if an extra melon grows. You will have to be very unlucky to fully break a whole row.(even when I tried it using a teleport system and lag gen I could not get a row of 4 torches to break)

You still can, its like

12121212 1221122112
↓↑↓↑↓↑↓↑ ↓↑↑↓↓↑↑↓↓↑
21212121 2112211221

Arrows are pistons 1=melon 2=plant
