Suggestion:
Staff Application Updates

Detailed description:
I’d like to suggest adding two questions to the staff application: "Are there any staff members who can vouch for you?" and "Have you ever broken a rule and gotten away with it?" These questions would help the staff management learn more about the applicant's character and past behavior, which is important for building a trustworthy team.

Reason(s):
1. "Are there any staff members who can vouch for you?"

This question would give us a better sense of the applicant’s relationships within the team. If a current staff member can vouch for someone, it shows they are trusted and respected within the community. It can also help us see how well they work with others, which is key when bringing new team members on board.

Why it helps:

  • Helps us see if the applicant has earned trust within the community.
  • Shows they can build good working relationships.
  • Makes onboarding smoother with existing connections.

2. "Have you ever broken a rule and gotten away with it?"

This question asks the applicant to reflect on their past and be honest about any mistakes they’ve made. It helps us understand if they take responsibility for their actions and if they’ve learned from their mistakes. It’s not about disqualifying anyone, but about seeing how they view rules and accountability.

Why it helps:

  • Shows if the applicant takes responsibility for their actions.
  • Gives insight into their integrity and decision-making.
  • Encourages self-reflection and growth.

Example(s):
  • "Are there any staff members who can vouch for you?" Example answer: "Yes, <staff_name> can vouch for me. <reason>

  • "Have you ever broken a rule and gotten away with it?" Example answer: "Yes, when I was new to the server, I accidentally used a bug in the game to get an advantage. Once I realized it was against the rules, I reported it to a staff member and made sure I never did it again. I learned the importance of following the rules to maintain fairness."

I'll away neutral on this.

While I agree there should be more/different questions in the form, I'm not really a fan of those you suggested.

About the vouching question, I believe vouches aren't a great way to work with. People will try and beg staff members for vouches, potentially even offering real money. While I'm sure no one in our current team would accept that money, it just doesn't seem like a good idea to add something that depends on other staff members.

About the broken rule question, I disagree. Some applicants may not be aware that they've broken a rule and gotten away with it in the past. It's possible you (possibly accidenally) broke a rule like 3 years ago, or even just a few months ago, and completely forgot about it. Additionally, they may remember an instance of them using a word that could be considered to break any rule, but they aren't aware that the rule actually covers that word. If they enter "No" to the question, but they did actually break a rule, it seems like they're lying when they might not be, which causes a false image to be given.

Do I think that there should be 1-2 more questions in the form: yes.
Should they be the ones you suggested: in my opinion, no.

Hello ZASDE4567,

Thank you for your interest in creating a suggestion to improve the server. We are always doing our best to make the server a better place for everyone.
However, we have eventually decided to deny your suggestion due to the following reason(s):
  • Our checks rely on objective metrics - not whether a staff member knows someone or not. It is a terrible idea to let personal biases interfere with our application process.
  • As for the rule-related question, I agree with the points mentioned by Surbate. In addition, I don't think it looks good to make people essentially incriminate themselves (even if we say they won't be punished for it).
For your reference, here is a link to our suggestion guidelines → PikaNetwork Suggestion Guidelines.
Please make sure to read and understand them before suggesting again.

We also advise you to use our Thread Search Feature to look for (similar) already made suggestions and upvote them instead.
Have fun playing on PikaNetwork!
