I've heard from many players that there is a limit on how many hoppers you can use in a chunk, and there is a special hopper too. Can anybody explain to me who plays survival regularly, what the limit is on hoppers per chunk, and explain what these special hoppers are and how to obtain them? And also, why do hoppers work so slowly, and what was the reason behind putting such a limit?

From what I know as someone who mostly plays survival, the “hopper limit per chunk” thing usually comes from server performance rules, not vanilla Minecraft itself. Vanilla doesn’t hard-cap hoppers per chunk, but a lot of survival servers/plugins set limits because hoppers cause lag by constantly checking for items every tick.

The “special hoppers” people talk about are usually custom plugin hoppers on SMP/server networks — stuff like chunk hoppers, mob hoppers, crop hoppers, or upgraded hoppers that collect items faster or across a bigger area. They’re not in normal Minecraft survival. You usually get them from server shops, crates, crafting recipes added by plugins, or events.

Normal hoppers are intentionally kinda slow because Mojang designed them to balance automation. If hoppers moved stacks instantly, giant farms and storage systems would become insanely overpowered and would also destroy server TPS even harder. Every hopper constantly checking inventories already creates a lot of calculations, which is why servers often limit hopper counts or disable hopper systems.
