Suggestion:
Guild Tag Rules for Discord

Detailed description:

Detailed Description of the Suggestion:

With the recent introduction of Guild Tags on Discord, users now have the ability to set custom tags that appear next to their usernames within the server. These tags are visible to all members and are highly customizable. However, this feature opens up a new vector for inappropriate or rule-breaking content to be displayed publicly.

I propose that the server staff introduce specific rules and moderation guidelines for the use of Discord Guild Tags within the server. These rules should prohibit the use of:

  • Swear words or profane language
  • Sexual content or innuendo
  • Hate speech or discriminatory language
  • Impersonation of staff or official roles
  • Misleading or disruptive text
Additionally, automated moderation (if possible) and manual review of tags should be considered to enforce these rules.

Reason(s):

Reasons for This Suggestion:

  • Consistency with Existing Rules: The server already prohibits inappropriate content in usernames, messages, and nicknames. Guild tags are simply another form of visible identifier and should follow the same standards.
  • Preventing Abuse: Without clear guidelines, users might exploit guild tags to bypass filters or moderation, leading to the spread of offensive or harmful content.
  • Maintaining a Family-Friendly Community: Many Minecraft servers aim to be accessible to all age groups. Clear boundaries on content, including guild tags, help uphold this environment.
  • Reducing Confusion and Impersonation: Players may use tags like “Admin” or “Mod” misleadingly. Clear rules can prevent this kind of impersonation or role confusion.

Example(s):
  • A user sets their Guild Tag to "boob" — which contains sexual content disguised with character substitutions. Without moderation, this appears publicly and violates community standards.
  • A user sets their Guild Tag to "KYS", which is a commonly known abbreviation for "Kill Yourself."
    This phrase is extremely harmful and violates both Discord's community guidelines and the Minecraft server’s rules against hate speech and encouraging self-harm. If left unmoderated, it can contribute to a toxic or even dangerous environment, especially for younger or vulnerable members.

In my opinion, this shouldn't be punishable. The main reason for that is that guild tags are public, meaning it shows everywhere, and it's not a server specific thing.

Hello Jace9 👋,

Thank you for your interest in creating a suggestion to improve the server. We are always doing our best to make the server a better place for everyone.
However, we have eventually decided to deny your suggestion due to the following reason(s):
  • Already implemented. Heavily inappropriate guild tags that break our rules are already punishable.
For your reference, here is a link to our suggestion guidelines → PikaNetwork Suggestion Guidelines.
Please make sure to read and understand them before suggesting again.

We also advise you to use our Thread Search Feature to look for (similar) already made suggestions and upvote them instead.
Have fun playing on PikaNetwork :yaychu:
