Combat Disconnect Protection
Detailed description:
Add a Combat Disconnect Protection System that prevents item loss when a player is disconnected during combat due to server or connection issues.
Currently, if a player disconnects during combat (without being killed by another player), they still die and lose all items. This is extremely punishing in modes like OP Lifesteal where gear requires a large gold investment.
The suggestion is to detect non-intentional disconnects (timeout, connection reset, server kick) and apply one of the following protections:
This protection would not apply to manual /logout or force-close abuse.
Detailed Description
Currently, if a player disconnects during combat (without being killed by another player), they still die and lose all items. This is extremely punishing in modes like OP Lifesteal where gear requires a large gold investment.
The suggestion is to detect non-intentional disconnects (timeout, connection reset, server kick) and apply one of the following protections:
- Freeze the player for a few seconds instead of killing them
- Delay death and check if another player actually dealt the final damage
- Safely store inventory and restore it on rejoin if no player kill occurred
This protection would not apply to manual /logout or force-close abuse.
Reason(s):
- Prevents unfair item loss caused by server or network issues
- Protects players’ time and heavy resource investments
- Reduces frustration and rage-quits
- Encourages continued play instead of players quitting after losing everything unfairly
Example(s):
- Player disconnects due to timeout during combat → rejoins with inventory restored
- Player is actually killed by another player → normal death applies
- Repeated suspicious disconnects → protection disabled automatically
