How does the Combo mode work?

I don't normally play practice but I played Combo for the first time yesterday.
I thought it was just going to be like Boxing but with potions.

However, each time I got hit there were about 10 hit noise sounds.
A few minutes earlier I played against the same player in a different mode and they definitely weren't hacking or drag clicking.

Is it part of the game mode that each hit is multiplied?

Yes, this is a part of the gamemode.
 
so you know how you cant hit more than twice a second cuz of the red color appearing? so that red color is removed in that mode.

its a part of the gamemode
 
Combo duels is a game mode where players have OP Gear and the combat delay is removed, meaning you can hit the player MUCHHH quicker than in normal Minecraft PvP
